ALANO
Alano di Piave is a Municipality in the south of the Province of Belluno. It is located in a lush valley on the south-east foot of Mount Grappa, along the right bank of the river Piave. Its origins are not sure but they are very old; it is certain that in Roman times there were human settlements: Roman military presence has been confirmed in the nearby village of Fener. During the first World war Alano was on the border between the Austrian and Italian Armies and their violent fights caused huge damage to both people and territory. For this reason as well as for its people’s courage and behaviour during and after the two World Wars, the municipality of Alano was awarded a Silver medal for Civil Valour. The same valley is called “Conca delle Medaglie d’Oro” (= Valley of the Golden Medals). In the village of Campo, a historical municipal museum was founded to let people know and remember these events on the territory. In the parish church of Alano some paintings by Tizianello, Pittoni and some sculptures by Marchieri which survived war destruction are preserved.

There are many possibilities for excursion along the marked paths, going up the surrounding mountains around the village. Mountains summer pasture is still practised and it is possible to buy dairy products directly from the local producers. . A province road starting from Alano leads to Cima Grappa (15 Km) , along which it is possible to enjoy the sight of picturesque landscapes and on, very clear days ,even the city of Venice on the horizon.

Thanks to its position Alano di Piave is the ideal starting point to visit the territory of Belluno Province, moreover you can easily reach the Provinces of Treviso (south-east) and Vicenza (south-west).
